Puzzle training

Puzzles that suit you. Your puzzle rating is a number that shows how hard a puzzle you can solve. Solve one and it goes up, and the next one is a little harder. Miss one and it goes down. As many as you like, for as long as you like.

Your themes

How you're doing in each theme, from the one you're strongest at to the one where you have the most to gain. Performance is the puzzle rating you have shown in that theme, worked out from how hard the puzzles were and how many of them you solved. It shows once you have played three puzzles in the theme. Tap a theme to practice just that one.

How your puzzle rating works

Every puzzle has a rating of its own, which shows how hard it has been for everyone who has tried to solve it. Solve a puzzle with no wrong move and no hint and your puzzle rating goes up, more the harder the puzzle was. A wrong move, a hint or a shown solution counts as a miss, and then it goes down. You can still carry on until the puzzle is solved.

Everyone starts at 1500. At first the rating moves a lot, and then more calmly as it learns more about you. If you have been away for a while, it moves a little more again. Your puzzle rating is only for puzzles and doesn't affect your rating in games.

Missed puzzles come back

A puzzle you miss comes back after a day. Solve it then and it comes back after three days, and then after a week. Solve it all three times and you've got it, and the puzzle leaves your list of missed puzzles. Miss it along the way and it starts over, coming back after a day. Another try doesn't count toward your puzzle rating, since you have already seen the solution.

Where is it kept?

Your puzzle rating, your themes and the list of missed puzzles are kept in your browser. If you have a profile, they go with it to your other devices.
