Terms for LaviChess Plus

Who you buy from

LaviChess is run by Tentmaker Sweden, a Swedish sole proprietorship (enskild firma), company registration number 701101-5034, VAT number SE701101503401, Tegnérgatan 6, 576 31 Sävsjö, Sweden. You can reach us at hello@lavichess.com.

What Plus is

Plus is an add-on to a profile on LaviChess (the one that belongs to your player code). What it includes is listed on the page about Plus. What is free today stays free. Plus belongs to the profile, not to a device: log in to the profile and you have Plus there, on LaviChess and on Schackdags, our Swedish sister site.

The buyer must be an adult. Plus can be bought for another profile, a child's for example, or given away as a gift card.

Prices and payment

• Plus: $3.99 a month or $34.99 a year.
• Plus Family (up to six profiles): $5.99 a month or $49.99 a year.
• Questions for the Coach: 50 questions for $2.99, 150 questions for $6.99.

Prices are in US dollars, with any VAT included: the price you see is the price you pay. You pay through Stripe, with a card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or another way of paying shown at checkout. We never see your card or bank details. With some ways of paying (a bank transfer or a direct debit, for example) the money takes a few days to arrive: Plus starts when it has, and a gift card's code shows once it has. Stripe sends the receipt to the email address you enter at checkout, and we send a confirmation of the purchase there too, with what you agreed to at checkout.

Every month or every year

Plus every month and Plus every year renew automatically and are charged the way you paid at the start of each new period, until you cancel. You can cancel whenever you like on your profile, under Account (Receipts, card and cancellation). Plus then lasts until the end of the period you have already paid for. You don't get money back for a period that has begun, except when you withdraw from the purchase (see below). A profile has one plan that renews at a time, and it can start when the profile's own Plus time is over.

If we change the price, the new price applies only from a later period. We email you at least 30 days in advance, at the address the receipts go to, so that you have time to cancel if you want to.

One year, paid once

Plus for a year is paid once. It lasts a year (365 days) and doesn't renew, so you never need to cancel it. If you already have Plus, the year is added after the time you have left. If the profile's Plus renews by itself, cancel that first; the year is then added after the time you have paid for. A year of Plus for one can't be added to a profile's own Plus Family (the family would lose Plus), but a year of Plus Family can.

The family

With Plus Family you can add up to five other profiles to yours. They have Plus as long as your family plan lasts. You can remove a profile whenever you like. The family shares the month's questions for the Coach; questions that someone buys belong to that profile.

Questions for the Coach

The Coach answers questions about your games. With Plus the profile gets 60 questions every month. With Plus Family the family's profiles share 120 a month. Without Plus the profile gets three a month to try. The month's questions start over on the first of every month (Swedish time); unused ones don't carry over. Questions you buy stay until you use them, as long as the profile exists. Asking about a position uses one question; a talk-through of a whole game uses three. If an answer can't be given, you get the question back.

The Coach's answers are written by a computer. They are usually good, but they can be wrong. Trust the board most.

Your name

As long as you have Plus, and for 30 days after, no one else can create a profile with your name. At a table with friends, everyone may still call themselves whatever they like. We may change a name that breaks the naming rules, with or without Plus.

Gift cards

A gift card is a code you get right after paying. It can be redeemed once, on one profile, at any time: the code doesn't expire, and works for as long as LaviChess exists. You redeem it at lavichess.com/plus/gift (or on Schackdags). A gift card for Plus gives Plus for a year (365 days) from the day it is redeemed, or after the time the profile already has. If the profile's Plus renews by itself, cancel that first; a gift card for Plus for one can't be redeemed on a profile's own Plus Family. A gift card for questions gives the questions at once. Gift cards can't be redeemed for cash.

Right of withdrawal

You have a 14-day right of withdrawal under the Swedish Distance and Off-Premises Contracts Act (lagen om distansavtal och avtal utanför affärslokaler). The 14 days start the day after the purchase and end at midnight, Swedish time, at the end of the 14th day. If that day is a Saturday, a Sunday or a Swedish public holiday (Midsummer Eve, Christmas Eve on December 24 and New Year's Eve on December 31 included), the period runs to the end of the next working day. This is how it works for what we sell:

• Plus starts as soon as your payment has arrived. You ask for that at checkout. If you withdraw from the purchase within the 14 days, you get the whole amount back: the Plus you bought ends, and nothing more is charged; time you had from another purchase stays.
• Questions for the Coach are digital content that you get at once. At checkout you agree to that, and to the right of withdrawal ending when you start using the questions. Until then you can withdraw from the purchase and get your money back.
• You can withdraw from a gift card purchase within the 14 days, as long as the code hasn't been redeemed.

How to withdraw: go to Withdraw a purchase, choose the purchase (or enter the gift card's code), enter your name and the email address your receipt went to, and confirm. You get a confirmation by email, with the time we received your notice. You can also email hello@lavichess.com and say which purchase it concerns, or send us the form below (you don't have to use it). We refund you without undue delay, and no later than 14 days after we receive your notice, the same way you paid and at no cost to you.

If the profile is deleted

Plus follows the profile. If you delete the profile, Plus every month or every year is canceled automatically, and whatever was left of Plus and the questions disappears with the profile. With Plus Family, the family's profiles lose Plus too. A profile that has been barred from rated games keeps its Plus.

If something doesn't work

Get in touch at hello@lavichess.com, and we'll put it right. If you have paid for something that doesn't work, you have rights under consumer law (to have it fixed, a lower price or your money back). If we can't agree, you can turn to the National Board for Consumer Disputes (Allmänna reklamationsnämnden, ARN), arn.se. If you live elsewhere in the EU, the European Consumer Centre in your country can help.

What we keep for Plus, and what Stripe keeps, is on the privacy page.

Changes

If we change the terms, it will say so here, with the date. A change to your disadvantage does not apply to a period you have already paid for. If a change is to your disadvantage and your plan renews, we email you at least 30 days before it applies, so you can cancel. Swedish law applies. If you live outside Sweden, you also keep the protection that the consumer laws of your own country give you.
